The Linksys-Cisco WRT54GL Wireless Router is a tested and true device supporting 802.11 b and g and comes with WPA, WPA2 and WEP encryption. It is the little router that could. It is also the little router that fulfills 3 separate functions important for home or small office use.

First, it's a 4 port 10/100 switch, so you can connect up to 4 PCs to it directly or a combination of hubs, switches, network capable printers and create a large network. Second, it's a wireless access point allowing you to connect your wireless devices. Last, it's a NAT router that allows you to connect to cable or DSL and connect all your devices to the Internet. It also provides SPR firewall functionality and VPN pass through support.

I've deployed several of these little routers successfully over the years with little trouble. Use good security practices such as changing the admin password, a unique name for the wireless access point and disable both Remote admin access and Universal Plug and Play when setting it up. Always use a small battery backup to protect it. While it is a man made device and sometimes you'll find a bad one, the Linksys-Cisco WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router has been one of the most consistent and dependable of the home/small office breed of routers.
